Company History

Comlock Security Group started life as a one-man operation in 1961 called Bill's Lock & Safe. Bill Maris (the Bill in Bill's Lock) began a small locksmith operation in the rear of his Western Auto Parts store located in La Habra. The lock and key business started to bloom so he gave up the automotive world and ventured into the world of locksmithing by obtaining a larger location, also in La Habra. In 1964, Bill took on a partner, his son Wayne. The business thrived and the father-son team added additional service personnel to the operation. By 1966, they had outgrown the La Habra shop and made the move to a new location in Whitter. By 1968, it was time to open up a second location in Fullerton. This expansion was a testament to the solid reputation they were earning; offering reliable security services and quality products at a fair price. A third shop was opened in 1976 in a nearby city named Brea. Nine years later, an Anaheim location became their fourth. By this time, the 'shops' were evolving into stores and ultimately security centers.

Changes in the industry, the community, and customer base throughout the 1980's were factors that propelled Comlock to become a more professional security business. With the increase in property crimes, the public demanded more sophisticated hardware and security systems to protect their valuables at home, in their business and their vehicles. The industry responded and so did the company. Knowledge and ability integrated the new technology of access control and camera systems. Then in 1991, the company developed an alarm company called Spectrum Security Systems to further integrate the electronics environment that was infiltrating the mechanical world of locksmithing. With that came a change in name to Bill's Commercial Lock & Security Service, to dropping the 'Bill's', then changing 'Service' to 'Systems.

As Comlock grew, it was obvious that finding suitable technicians was beginning to be a challenge. In that same year, it was decided to start a locksmith school, creating a curriculum, and getting approved by the State of California to operate. The School of Security Technology has trained hundreds of individuals in the way of the locksmith. With the school, the alarm company, and the commercial security enterprise that was growing an umbrella name to encompass all facets of the organization was needed so in 1996, the corporate name was changed from Maris Enterprises to Comlock Security Group, Inc.

To grow market share in south Orange County the company acquired Elite Security. This endeavor helped determine a new location of the corporate offices; the City of Orange. Today, there are two service centers to service customers; Orange and Fullerton. The outside service department covers an area from Ventura to San Diego. Because of the company's ability to service multi-location type companies, Comlock began to develop a network of security partners to perform work in the company's name in geographic regions beyond the normal southern California service area. This now covers the western part of the United States with many other metropolitan areas across the country.

Comlock continues to grow and develop skills of its team members and resources to maintain dynamic security solutions from traditional locksmithing to integrated electronics for the customers. Comlock team members provide the strength and professionalism to deliver service excellence at every opportunity with the customer. Comlock is security you can trust.
